A Love Letter to Montgomery County and Bucks County

A trail along the Delaware Canal in Bucks County Pennsylvania.

As the hometown health insurer of Philadelphia and its surrounding counties, we at Independence Blue Cross are proud to serve the region. Finalizing our list of loves for Philadelphia, Chester and Delaware counties, here’s why we have cherished serving Montgomery County and Bucks County for the past 85 years, and are looking forward to the next 85!

Reasons why we love Montgomery County

Because we have beautiful places to take long walks

For Montco residents, Valley Forge Park is not only a beautiful attraction, it’s a time traveling opportunity. With more than 3,500 acres of land that were once hiked by George Washington, this park brings our history to life through tours and activities.

Because of our history and strength

The strength of Montgomery County has been proven throughout history. When walking through Artillery Park, we remember the soldiers who stood their ground, a true example of courage and unity.

Because we know how to shop ‘til we drop

We are home to the number one shopping destination on the East Coast. The King of Prussia mall attracts 22 million visitors a year with more than 2.9 million square feet of stores to choose from, bringing the phrase “shop ‘til you drop” into fruition for our visitors.

Because legends are born here

Legends are born here. Growing up in Lower Merion, Kobe Bryant’s legacy and mamba mentality is still felt throughout our entire community.

Because Manderach Park is the place to play

Montgomery County has some of the best places to play, even if you’re an adult. Our Manderach Park has big slides, picnic tables and plenty of fields to play baseball in. It’s a one-stop-shop for all things fun!

Because our cows are too cute

Our cows are the cutest animals you’ll ever see. One stroll through Merrymead Farm and you won’t want to leave Montgomery County ever again.

Because wildlife conservation is important to us all

Our community actively works to ensure the survival of wildlife. At Elmwood Park Zoo, we manage threatened species and support organizations who are committed to protecting our furry and feathered friends.

Because our train rides are magical

Even our visitors understand the magic stored within Colebrookdale Railroad tours. Our restored rail cars have brought patriotic history to life for nearly ten years.

Because we have fun while raising funds

We know how to have fun while also raising funds. That’s why we created the 5k, Brews and BBQ annual race, an event where our community partakes in physical activity and raises money for the Montgomery County Hero Fund.

Because women make Montco a music destination

The women of Montgomery County make our region a jazz music destination. Whether you want to listen funk fusion or band classics, you’ll find it all at Montco’s annual Jazz Festival celebrating “Women in Jazz”.

Because our local artists have such unique styles

Our local artists have unique styles that can’t be recreated. Just look at the second iteration of the Arts Montco Wall in King of Prussia, where you can find a plethora of work from all walks of life.

Because we understand the importance of preserving Black history

We understand the significance of preserving Black history and educating the next generation of leaders. This is why we continue to celebrate the life of Charles L. Blockson, an expert in Black genealogy and the Underground Railroad, through an exhibition at the Centre Theater in Charles’ hometown, Norristown.

Reasons why we love Bucks County

Because covered bridges are both functional and beautiful

Bucks County residents can appreciate the beauty and functionality of covered bridges. Constructed in 1855, our Uhlerstown Covered Bridge has windows on both sides and is the only one in the county to cross the Delaware Canal.

Because green farms turn into lush fall landscapes

Whether you’re picking pumpkins in the fall or seeing the sunflowers grow in the summer, Shady Brook provides a bit of an oasis for all.

Because shopping, dining and entertainment can be a destination

Our villages bring shopping, dining and entertainment all to one place. One trip to Peddler’s Village and you’ll be in awe of all the colonial treasures our county has to offer.

Because beautiful things happen when music and nature merge

Beautiful things can happen when music and nature merge, and our Ringing Rocks are a testament to that. One hammer strike to this boulder field and you’ll be amazed by the bell ring it creates.

Because art and history are at our core

Art and history are at our core. Between the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle, Bucks County is home to some of the nation’s greatest treasures.

Because our Founding Fathers made their mark here

Our region is where our Founding Father’s made their mark. George Washington marched across the Delaware River and turned the tide of the Revolutionary War here. A piece of history we are proud to preserve in the Washington Crossing Historic Park.

Because we know how to get to Sesame Street

Sunny days don’t have to just exist during the summer. We love to bring our friends and family to sing, laugh and play with the Muppets down at Sesame Place.

Because we get Spooky Season

A local to Greater Philadelphia, M. Night Shyamalan knows how to bring the fear in his iconic films. But don’t be afraid, you might recognize the backdrop to a few of his movies on a quick drive through Bucks County.

Because we can stay where history happened

History is just a hop, skip and stay away. Located one block from the center of New Hope, the Aarom Burr House B&B gives residents a taste of the past and an appreciation for colonial architecture.

Because we grow relaxation

Not only do we practice relaxation, but we also grow it. Whether you spell it lavender or lavandar, we’ve got it all at our beloved Peace Valley Lavender Farm.

Because we can pick our own

In Bucks County, we take pride in picking our produce. From fresh flowers to warm apple cider, our Penn Vermont Fruit Farm always satisfies our taste buds.

Because we will never forget

We believe in honoring the lives lost in 9/11. That’s why we created the Garden of Reflection, which commemorates the 2,973 heroes we lost through a memorial made of trees, water and a beautiful spiraling path.

Because goat yoga is the best kind of yoga

Sometimes, adding a little twist to our daily workout routine is needed and what better way to do it than find your inner peace with some furry friends.
