The Philadelphia Tribune celebrated excellence and leadership in the city’s African-American community at its signature awards event, recognizing influential individuals who have made significant contributions across education, business, health, community, and religious organizations.

Gregory E. Deavens, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross (IBX), received the evening’s highest distinction: “2025 Most Influential African American.” He joins a distinguished group of 12 Philadelphians recognized for driving meaningful change in their fields and communities.

Lorina Marshall-Blake, vice president of Community Affairs at IBX and president of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation, was also honored as one of the African American Leaders. Her award highlights her exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment to community service, and dedication to empowering others.

The celebration brought together civic leaders, dignitaries, and supporters for an inspiring evening of tributes, speeches, and recognition of the honorees’ achievements. The Tribune’s continued spotlight on these changemakers underscores its mission to uplift and celebrate African American leadership in Philadelphia. The full list of honorees were highlighted in September 21, 2025, issue of The Philadelphia Tribune magazine.

Deavens and Marshall-Blake have been honored by the Tribune in previous years as well —  2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021 — reflecting their sustained impact and leadership.
