Christine Kourouklis named Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer; Brian Iaia named Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary
Independence Blue Cross (IBX) today announced two additions to its executive leadership team. Christine Kourouklis has been named Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer, and Brian Iaia has been named Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Their decades of health care, financial, legal, and regulatory experience will help strengthen IBX’s leadership team and support the company’s goals for growth and delivering affordable, accessible care for members.
Kourouklis brings more than two decades of financial leadership experience across commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, and health plan operations. Most recently, Kourouklis served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of AmeriHealth Caritas, where she led the organization’s financial functions, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, actuarial services, and treasury management. Previously, she served as President of Medicare and CFO for the government and consumer lines of business at Health Care Service Corporation, one of the nation’s largest Blue Cross and Blue Shield organizations. Throughout her career, Kourouklis has led large-scale financial portfolios and enterprise initiatives focused on strengthening performance, advancing growth, and supporting long-term sustainability. Her track record of financial and business leadership will be instrumental as IBX pursues new opportunities to serve customers and members.
Iaia has more than 25 years of experience leading legal, compliance, regulatory, and corporate matters across highly regulated industries. He joins IBX from UnitedHealth Group, where he held senior legal and regulatory leadership roles since 2009, most recently serving as Senior Vice President and Senior Deputy General Counsel for UnitedHealthcare National Regulatory Affairs and Transactions, where he led nationwide regulatory affairs. He also served as General Counsel of UnitedHealthcare Global, advising on regulatory matters, transactions, governance, enterprise risk, and international operations. Iaia’s experience also includes leading the adoption of AI and automation technologies to strengthen legal, compliance, and regulatory operations and improve organizational effectiveness.
“The challenges and opportunities facing health care today are different than they were even a few years ago, and we’re building a leadership team with the expertise to help us meet that moment. Christine and Brian bring the leadership and strategic insight we need to strengthen our organization, continue delivering for our members and customers, and help shape the future of IBX,” said Kelly Munson, President and CEO of Independence Blue Cross.
These leadership additions follow IBX’s June appointment of Chris Fanning as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. Fanning has more than 30 years of health care experience and leads the company’s commercial strategy, products, sales, and partnerships.
