Independence awarded national recognition for workplace excellence

Insurer named a 2023 Top Workplaces USA and one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2023

Philadelphia’s hometown insurer, Independence Blue Cross (Independence), received two national honors recognizing the company as a great place to work. For the third straight year, Independence was named to the Top Workplaces USA list. The company was also named one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2023.

“These awards are meaningful because they are presented in recognition of our associates’ unique talents, perspectives, and feedback, as well as how we are viewed externally. I’m thrilled that we can share with a national audience what we already know — our associates are our greatest strength and make Independence a truly special place.”  said Crystal E. Ashby, Independence executive vice president and chief people officer.

2023 Top Workplaces USA

Independence ranked 37 out of 100 companies on the 2023 Top Workplaces USA list in the category of employers with 2,500 or more employees. The Top Workplaces USA award is based solely on the responses that Independence Blue Cross associates offered in a survey administered by Energage, LLC in November 2022.

The Top Workplaces survey asked specific questions about workplace culture, company values, and whether the respondent’s job makes them feel like a part of something meaningful. Independence was also named one of the Top Workplaces in the Philadelphia area for the fourth straight year.

America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2023

For its recognition on the America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2023 list, Independence (shown as “IBX” on the list) achieved a five-star diversity score. The score acknowledges that the company celebrates diversity while implementing policies to cultivate an inclusive workplace.

The list, the result of a collaboration between Newsweek magazine and market data research company Plant-A Insights, is based on information obtained from publicly available data and targeted external interviews and surveys.
