The Well City Challenge, a collaborative social impact program led by Independence Blue Cross (Independence) and the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia (ELGP), will culminate with the Well City Expo on Wednesday, July 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to anyone.
The event will celebrate the five Well City Challenge Pitch Competition winners (Hey Auntie!, Let’s Talk Philly, Freedom Greens & Gardens, Shear Balance, and Strides) and announce the final winner of the $50,000 grand prize. It will be held virtually using the Accelevents platform.
The Expo is also an opportunity for attendees to learn about millennial health, interact with the teams, and ask questions about ideas and incubator experiences.
Independence will kick off the evening with opening remarks from President and CEO Gregory E. Deavens, followed by interactive booths and a panel discussion with the teams. Syreeta Martin, WURD radio host, will emcee the event.
The Well City Challenge is a social impact program to support innovators with new ideas for addressing and improving millennial mental and physical health through community-led ventures. The challenge explores three focus areas which include community and social connection, food and nutrition, and mind/body.
The Well City Challenge was inspired by the 2019 Blue Cross Blue Shield Health of America report “The Health of Millennials,” which found that millennials are suffering from more physical and mental health challenges than previous generations, including double-digit increases in 8 out of 10 top health conditions.
