Independence Blue Cross welcomes the participants of our annual ten-week college summer internship program. This marks the 19th year we have hosted the popular student intern program.
Representing over 40 colleges and universities, a total of 97 college students are participating this year making it our second largest class. This is also our second consecutive year welcoming students from The Attic Youth Center, a Philadelphia-based organization serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.
The college intern program provides support for associates and presents students with several unique opportunities, such as professional development seminars and participation in a group project which is focused this year on identifying ways to better engage the senior population.
In keeping with our social mission, interns also participate in a community service project. This year the 2016 class visited Cradles to Crayons, an organization that collects new and nearly new children’s items and distributes them to disadvantaged children across the state. Our interns inspected and sorted donations such as school supplies, toys, and clothing which will benefit approximately 500 children. Additionally, our 2016 college interns serve as mentors to our high school students.
We are proud of the talent and impact that participants in the intern program bring to Independence, and we look forward to watching them gain valuable work experience and life skills!
