Independence Blue Cross (Independence) announced that Twana E. Harris has joined the organization as Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
In this role, Harris will oversee the company’s corporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategies and activities. She will work across the Independence enterprise with other stakeholders to amplify the DEI work being done throughout the organization.
“Twana’s extensive experience leading DEI for large organizations, as well as her commitment to creating workplaces where employees experience belongingness, feel valued, respected, and are able to be their full authentic selves makes her an ideal fit to drive our DEI strategies and initiatives. We are thrilled to have Twana leverage her leadership and expertise to drive forward our mission of empowering our associates at all levels and a workforce that represents the communities we serve,” said Crystal E. Ashby, executive vice president, chief people, DEI and communications officer at Independence Blue Cross.
Over the last two decades, Harris has focused on DEI in all aspects of talent management and served as a champion for initiatives that promote diversity and understanding in the workplace. She most recently served as the Head of Talent, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Learning and Development at Freedom Mortgage. While there, Harris’s forward-thinking leadership played a part in designing strategies to align DEI with the company’s mission.
Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Long Beach. She also holds a graduate degree in social psychology from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
