Philadelphia, PA – As we have for nearly 80 years, Independence is committed to helping people find the safety and security that come with being enrolled in a health plan that is right for them.
Independence supports the Senate’s efforts to stabilize the individual health insurance marketplace and provide a path toward lower premiums and increased competition. We believe the steps that the Senate bill outlines would moderate premium increases going forward, including:
- funding cost-sharing reductions;
- creating sustained funding to help care for those with serious medical needs;
- repealing the health insurer tax which will benefit small groups and individuals; and
- building in incentives for people to stay covered throughout the year.
These actions move us toward our shared goal of stabilizing the market, promoting broad access, and creating sustainable solutions. Americans are best served by a competitive, private health insurance market that offers people the quality and choices they want at a price they can afford.
We share the Senate’s goal of ensuring that Medicaid is sustainable for generations to come. However, we believe there needs to be additional dialogue about how we best achieve that goal and continue to take care of our most vulnerable citizens.
