2022 Philly Bike Ride
Independence Blue Cross to serve as the exclusive health care company of the ride, supporting the event’s mission of accessible biking and bike safety
Philly Bike Ride and Independence Blue Cross (Independence) announce a new strategic alliance around the second annual Philly Bike Ride taking place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, with a start time of 7:30 a.m.
Independence will serve as an official sponsor and the exclusive health care company of the 2023 Philly Bike Ride, supporting the event’s mission of making biking more accessible for local residents and bike safety. Philly Bike Ride will offer bicyclists the unique opportunity to cruise through Philly neighborhoods, famous sites, and scenic skyline views in a closed-road, non-competitive bike ride. The event was recently named the city’s Best New Annual Event by Philly Magazine and benefits the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. Registration is open and can be completed at Phillybikeride.com. More than 6,000 riders are expected to participate in the 2023 event.
“We are proud to support the mission of Philly Bike Ride and help more people experience the beauty and history of our hometown in a way that is fun for riders of all ages, as well as physically and mentally healthy. This Ride encompasses the true spirit of Philadelphia, and we look forward to being part of the team that makes it all happen.” said Dr. Rodrigo Cerdá, Independence Blue Cross senior vice president of Health Services and chief medical officer.
The ride, celebrating life on two wheels, is ideal for riders of all ages to enjoy music, taste local flavors, and capture memorable photos as they pedal past the historic sites of Center City, Independence Hall, Penn’s Landing, Boathouse Row, Kelly Drive, and also take in local neighborhoods such as Manayunk. Participants can choose from a 20-mile course or a shorter 7.6-mile version, with a finish line by the iconic setting of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the shadow of the famed Rocky Steps. The event concludes with a post-ride festival, free and open to the public, that features live music, wellness activities, complete with food trucks, a beer garden, and family-friendly fun to make for a festive Fall Saturday.
Independence has a deep relationship with the bike community in Philadelphia, including serving as title sponsor of Indego, Philly’s official bike share program. The organization’s presence in Philly Bike Ride will further support the mission of creating hyper local accessibility to safe cycling.
“We are honored that Independence Blue Cross wanted to partner together for the second annual Philly Bike Ride,” said Chris Browne, managing director of Philly Bike Ride. “Through their support, we believe that we can continue to show that biking is accessible to everyone. From children to grandparents, we are looking forward to seeing participants of all ages enjoy the sights on the streets of Philly!”
Philly Bike Ride offers convenient and affordable bike rentals to help make bicycling more accessible for those who don’t own a bike, visitors, or groups looking for a fun outing.
