The Philadelphia Tribune and Independence Blue Cross (Independence) are continuing to address health disparities in the African American community with a new phase of their Our Community. Our Health campaign that is focused on COVID-19 vaccines. The campaign will encourage community members who have not been vaccinated to do so to protect themselves and their loved ones. The campaign will be carried out using print ads, social media content, and video.
This new phase of the campaign kicked off with an open letter ad co-signed by Robert Bogle, president and CEO of The Philadelphia Tribune; and Greg Deavens, Independence president and CEO, on Sunday, Aug. 1.
Additional ads and content will feature the following campaign ambassadors over the next six weeks: Richard Snow, Regional Development Director, UNCF; Rachel Ferguson, Chief Innovation & Global Diversity Officer, Visit Philadelphia; Pastor William Moore, Tenth Memorial Baptist Church; Dr. Brenda Allen, President, Lincoln University; and Ryan Boyer, Business Manager, Laborers’ District Council. The ambassadors being featured in the ads are some of the more than 100 African American community leaders who have been working to amplify the messages of the Our Community. Our Health. campaign since its start via community outreach, personal conversations, meetings, social media, and more.
Originally launched in November of 2020, Our Community. Our Health. is a public awareness health campaign that was introduced to address the racial health disparities and increasing rates of diabetes, obesity, and heart disease in the African American community.
