Independence Blue Cross (IBX) received the Ignite Award for its corporate and foundation philanthropy at the first-ever “A Night to Ignite Gala” hosted by the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). The event took place on April 27 at the Four Seasons Philadelphia.

The gala honored those who play a crucial role in supporting PCOM’s mission and its “United & Ignited” campaign, which aims to advance initiatives that will ignite the purpose, practice, and passion of PCOM students. Its goal is to raise $65 million by 2026.

IBX President and CEO Gregory Deavens accepted the Ignite Award on behalf of IBX. PCOM aired an acceptance video with Deavens’ remarks. Deavens said, “Throughout our long partnership, we’ve worked on strengthening the connection between education and health care and bringing equitable, whole-person health care to people in need. It has been our privilege to support PCOM’s great work in the community, from the Wellness Fest on campus to the critical priorities of the Community Wellness Initiative.”

Howard A. Hassman, D.O., AOBFP, chief scientific officer at CenExel, was also recognized with the Ignite Award at the event.
