Philadelphia’s only car-free, social ride returns with iconic views, a finish festival, and fun for all ages
Philly Bike Ride is thrilled to announce the return of its fourth annual event on Saturday, October 18, 2025, starting at 7:30 a.m. This beloved fall tradition is Philadelphia’s only car-free social bike ride for all ages and is expected to welcome more than 7,000 riders, making it one of the fastest growing recreational cycling events in the country.
Philly Bike Ride offers the ultimate “Cruise At Your Own Pace” experience, a 20-mile, car-free ride that invites participants of all ages and abilities to pedal through the heart of the city. Whether you’re a first-time rider, casual cruiser, or avid cyclist, this ride offers a fun, welcoming, and scenic way to explore the city’s most iconic landmarks including Independence Hall, City Hall, LOVE Park, Chinatown, Penn’s Landing, and Boathouse Row, in a completely car-free environment.
“Philly Bike Ride is more than just a ride. It is a celebration of community, movement, health and the vibrant spirit of this City,” said Chris Browne, Managing Director of Philly Bike Ride. “With the continued support of Independence Blue Cross, we are proud to offer a fun, safe, and accessible way for people of all ages and abilities to experience the city on two wheels, completely car-free and at their own pace. We look forward to seeing the streets filled with energy, joy, and thousands of riders taking in the best of what Philadelphia has to offer.”
Participants can choose between the full 20-mile route or a shorter 7.6-mile course, both culminating near the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rocky Steps, where a Finish Festival awaits. This Finish Festival includes live music, a beer garden, food trucks, wellness activities in the Independence Blue Cross (IBX) “Well-Being Zone,” and family-friendly fun for all.
Returning in 2025, Independence Blue Cross (IBX) will once again serve as an official sponsor and the exclusive “Well-Being Zone” partner at the Finish Festival. Their ongoing support is pivotal in helping Philly Bike Ride promote bike safety, health, and accessibility for residents across the region. A portion of event proceeds will benefit the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and its Youth Cycling Program (BCYC). And thanks to the growing support from the Philly Bike Ride community, the event launched the “Graduation on Wheels” this past May. Graduation on Wheels is focused on empowering and teaching young children how to ride a bike. The inaugural event provided bikes, helmets, and locks to 170 students in second through fifth grades who completed learn to ride education at Logan Elementary School. The program supports lifelong habits around health and confidence, and is a true celebration of life on two wheels.
“We know that exercise and play are vital for our overall well-being. It’s one of the many reasons IBX is proud to support Philly Bike Ride in its efforts to make our city’s vibrant neighborhoods accessible and enjoyable for all ages. We look forward to seeing the community come together on October 18!” said Dr. Rodrigo Cerdá, Independence Blue Cross senior vice president of Health Services and chief medical officer.
Philly Bike Ride makes participating easy and inclusive with affordable bike rentals available for riders who don’t own a bike, out-of-town visitors, or groups looking for a fun outdoor outing. New for 2025, Kate’s Real Food will be supporting the ride by providing healthy snacks at course rest stops, ensuring riders stay energized along the way.
