Independence Blue Cross (IBX) hosted Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley today at a Disney-themed event for Saniyah, a 10-year-old resident of Philadelphia who was diagnosed with leukemia. Saniyah’s wish to go to Disney World with her mother and grandmother was made possible thanks to corporate supporters, including IBX.
Saniyah’s mother, grandmother, and uncle joined the wish celebration along with more than 200 IBX associates. All wore mouse ears to celebrate the occasion. The event featured brief remarks from Gregory E. Deavens, IBX president and CEO; Tom Hutton, IBX executive vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary; and Jennifer Davis, Make-A-Wish president and CEO. Hutton, who is also a Make-A-Wish board member, read the official Make-A-Wish proclamation announcing the trip and presented Saniyah with a backpack filled with Disney-themed gifts and an iPad to help her prepare for her trip.
IBX supports Make-A-Wish through the Sapphire Fund, which is dedicated to granting the wishes of children battling cancer in our region. On average, more than 60 percent of the wishes Make-A-Wish grants each year are for a child fighting cancer.
