COVID-19 was front and center on January 28 during the KYW Newsradio Virtual Executive Briefing. The annual event brings together the station’s anchors and reporters to discuss the issues and news stories they expect to cover in the coming year. This is the fifth consecutive year that Independence Blue Cross joined the briefing as presenting sponsor.
During the virtual event, listeners heard an in-depth discussion about the biggest issues facing the Philadelphia region and the nation in 2021. In addition to COVID-19 case counts, testing sites, and vaccine issues, topics included the return-to-school plan, gun violence, and the upcoming primary election.
Independence Senior Vice President of Communications Donna Farrell kicked off the morning event with welcoming remarks. KYW morning drive anchor Ian Bush moderated the discussion.
The panel included KYW Newsradio anchors and reporters:
- Mike DeNardo, South Jersey and education reporter
- Cherri Gregg, community affairs reporter and host of Flashpoint
- Kristen Johanson, crime and justice reporter
- Pat Loeb, City Hall bureau chief
- Brian McDonough, medical expert
- Jim Melwert, suburban bureau chief
