Independence Blue Cross promotes John Varghese to Vice President of Enterprise Data and Integrations

Independence Blue Cross (Independence) announced the promotion of John Varghese to Vice President of Enterprise Data and Integrations.

In his new role, Varghese will be responsible for implementing innovative data solutions and technologies to streamline operations, boost efficiency, and drive revenue growth. Since joining Independence nearly 20 years ago, Varghese has held several leadership positions, showcasing his broad experience in healthcare and technology.

“John has been a pivotal leader in our technology and operations throughout his time at Independence. Under his leadership, his team has been instrumental in designing and building data-driven solutions and analytical capabilities. We are excited to see John’s talents, leadership, and expertise continue to strengthen our commitment to our members and customers,” says Sushma Akunuru, Senior Vice President of Business Technology Services for Independence.

Over his tenure, Varghese led the implementation of the electronic medical record ingestion from providers and health information exchanges. He also spearheaded the design and development of robust applications like the Provider Portal (PEAR) and the clinical stratification engine, iStrat, which enables Independence to introduce new clinical products through Vistia Health and Better Health View. Most recently, John led the migration of the organization’s on-premises enterprise data lakehouse and data analytics capabilities to a new Google Cloud Platform.

Varghese earned his Executive MBA from the Fox School of Business at Temple University, and his bachelor’s degree in electronics and communications engineering from the National Institute of Technology in Kozhikode, India.
