Independence Blue Cross (IBX) selected Jacki Cordery, a Delaware County music teacher and band and choral director at Walnut Street Elementary School in the William Penn School District, as a 2026 IBX Honor Roll winner! Ms. Cordery was chosen from a vast field of nominees for inspiring a love of music in students from kindergarten through 6th grade while building confidence and enthusiasm along the way.
A 16-year teaching veteran, Ms. Cordery is known for making music theory engaging and accessible while creating a safe, positive environment for learning. The winning nomination cited numerous examples of why she is a beloved educator:
- Helping children experience rhythm, melody, and patterns in ways that are both fun and educational.
- Connecting students to the stories behind the music by teaching the history of musical geniuses across genres and cultures.
- Organizing music celebrations that bring the school community together and showcase student growth and creativity.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Cordery brings skill and energy to band rehearsals, helping students perform confidently as an ensemble and take pride in their accomplishments. She is also admired for her warmth, friendliness, and compassion.
As a winning IBX Honor Roll teacher, Ms. Cordery will receive:
- A $500 gift card
- An on-field experience and recognition at the July 25 Philadelphia Phillies game
- Recognition on ballpark concourse signage and across IBX social media
- An IBX swag bag, including a Phillies jersey and cap
- A behind-the-scenes Citizens Bank Park tour to share with students or staff
