By September 10, 2019February 14th, 2023Community Events & Sponsorships

Independence Blue Cross is teaming up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) this September in support of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. One in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, but the disease is 99 percent treatable with early detection.

Let’s get ahead of this devastating disease together. Take action this Prostate Cancer Awareness Month:

  • Understand your risk with this quiz. Early detection significantly increases survival rates. Age, family history, race, diet, and lifestyle are all important risk factors.
  • Take good care of yourself. Did you know that cancer is estimated to be 42 percent preventable with lifestyle changes? Download this wellness guide from PCF for practical advice on eating, exercising, and relaxing to keep your body safe.
  • Get screened by a doctor. Nearly 32,000 men will die from prostate cancer this year. Screenings are important. Just ask Dax Shepard.
  • Spread the word. PCF offers free resources to support prostate cancer awareness month in your community.

Founded in 1993, PCF has raised more than $800 million for research and provided funding to more than 2,200 programs at more than 220 cancer centers and universities. The PCF global research enterprise now extends to 22 countries. PCF also advocates for greater awareness of prostate cancer and more efficient investment of governmental research funds for transformational cancer research.

Independence is proud to be a part of PCF’s effort to raise awareness in the Philadelphia region and nationwide. Independence’s efforts to educate people on the prevalence of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection continue throughout the year with events for associates, members, and the community.
