The Philadelphia Inquirer honored Independence Blue Cross with a Most Charitable Volunteerism award at the 2018 Corporate Philanthropy Awards in Philadelphia. The company was recognized for its significant impact in the community through the work of its associate volunteer group, the Blue Crew, which reached record levels of participation last year.
In 2017, the Blue Crew, supported nearly 100 nonprofit organizations at 303 projects throughout the year. More than 1300 volunteers gave nearly 12,000 hours of their time and talent to make a difference in the communities where they live and work. The number of donated volunteer hours represented a 35 percent increase compared with 2016.
In addition, St. John’s Hospice, which provides life-sustaining services to homeless men in Philadelphia, honored Independence with the 2018 Community Impact Award for dedication to service and volunteerism. Over the last two years, more than 250 Blue Crew volunteers have donated 450 hours in support of 36 volunteer projects at St. John’s Hospice.
