Helen Konstance, population health specialist, and Dr. Ronald Brooks, senior medical director, helped raise $9,000 for the the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes

For the 11th consecutive year, Independence Blue Cross supported the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes on November 2 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In addition to sponsoring the event, Independence was the top corporate fundraising team. The company also boasted the top individual fundraiser.

The Independence Marchers to Stomp Out Diabetes raised nearly $9,000. The team was led by Helen Konstance, Independence population health specialist, and Ronald Brooks, M.D., Independence senior medical director. Konstance was the walk’s top individual fundraiser, raising more than $6,000 for the American Diabetes Association.

The Step Out experience

Independence associates and their families and friends participated in the walk and enjoyed the event’s other family-friendly activities, including:

  • Yoga on the Art Museum steps
  • Kids’ Zone
  • Health and wellness vendors

The Step Out Walk raises funds and shows support for people living with diabetes. The money raised directly supports research, education, and advocacy for those living with type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Every year, approximately 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes.
