
Expanded roles will promote a seamless experience across all of the company’s lines of business
Philadelphia, PA — February 16, 2021 — Independence Health Group (Independence) announced the following key organizational changes, effective immediately:
- Mike Sullivan is taking on an expanded leadership role as chief sales officer and president of Commercial Markets. Sullivan now has responsibility for sales and retention across all fully insured and self-funded commercial segments: Large and national employers, consumer, and small – and mid-market. Prior to his new role, he served as senior vice president and president of Diversified Business at Independence. Sullivan continues to report to Brian Lobley, EVP, chief operating officer and president of Health Markets.
- Brett Mayfield is now senior vice president and market president of Local Markets overseeing new business and retention of fully insured and self-funded consumer, small-, and mid-market segments for Independence Blue Cross and Independence Administrators. Mayfield had been senior vice president of Sales. He reports to Mike Sullivan.
- Peter Panageas is now senior vice president and market president of National Markets focused on new business and retention for all Independence Blue Cross and Independence Administrators groups with 1,000+ members. This includes large local, national, health and welfare, education, and the Federal Employee Program (FEP). Panageas had been senior vice president of Sales and Client Management. He reports to Mike Sullivan.

The changes will mean customers, brokers, and consultants of Independence will have a seamless experience across all of the company’s lines of business.
“This strategic shift will allow us to better collaborate and adapt quickly to meet the needs of our clients,” said Sullivan. “Ultimately, our goal is to make it easy for our customers, consultants, and brokers to engage and do business with us.”
