Tony Taliaferro, vice president and deputy general counsel at Independence Blue Cross, is the recipient of the 2017 Albert S. Dandridge III Diversity Award presented by the Philadelphia Bar Association.
The award recognizes an individual who has made a substantial contribution to diversity in the Philadelphia area and who promotes full and equal inclusion in the legal profession.
“I am humbled and honored to receive the 2017 Albert S. Dandridge III Award,” Taliaferro said. “What I have done to advance diversity and inclusion in our legal community does not compare to the contributions made by others like Mr. Dandridge. I aim to do my part and be a steward of the types of opportunities that were extended to me.”
At Independence, Taliaferro serves as an executive sponsor of the Multicultural Men’s Group, an associate resource group committed to empowering and educating men in the areas of professional development, men’s health, continuing education, and community engagement.
Taliaferro was honored at an awards ceremony in Philadelphia. A donation will be made on his behalf to the Philadelphia Diversity Law Group, which creates programs to enhance recruitment and retention of lawyers of diverse backgrounds by law firms and corporate law departments in the Greater Philadelphia Region in order to make the legal profession stronger, more productive and better equipped to address the challenges of the twenty-first century.
