Dan Hilferty, Independence Blue Cross CEO, speaks to a room filled with youth-serving non-profit leaders at Pierce College about building relationships with organizations that can help support their missions.
City Councilman David Oh recently invited Dan Hilferty, Independence Blue Cross CEO, to speak to nearly 200 people at the 7th Annual Youth Non-Profit Symposium at Pierce College. The event is meant to help non-profit leaders serving the city’s youth connect with larger corporations and foundations to learn about best practices for getting the funding they need to fulfill their missions.
Hilferty enthusiastically shared his passion and experience in non-profit work as well as his business perspective as the leader of the region’s largest health insurer. He reminded the audience that the business community in Philadelphia shares non-profit leaders’ commitment to improving lives, especially for young people.
“Our goals for this city and its young people are completely in step with yours. The foundations you meet today are not just potential funders – they are potential partners,” Hilferty said as he talked about the importance of working together across organizations to achieve these goals.
In addition to Hilferty’s speech, the event featured a main stage panel discussion and smaller breakout sessions which covered the importance of doing in-depth research for targeted funding sources and finding creative ways to build relationships with corporations and foundations that support youth-based non-profits.
