In celebration of its 80th anniversary, Independence Blue Cross (Independence) kicked off its first Community Impact Day, a company-wide day of service supporting a variety of local nonprofit organizations focused on good health and well-being. Collectively, more than 300 Independence associates and interns volunteered over 1,600 hours, with the majority of volunteer efforts taking place on Wednesday, June 6 at the following sites:

  • Associated Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired annual luncheon
  • Broad Street Ministry
  • Food Bank of South Jersey
  • Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County and Greater Trenton-Princeton
  • Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia ReStore
  • Hope Lodge
  • MANNA
  • Philabundance
  • Ronald McDonald House Chestnut Street
  • Ronald McDonald House Erie Avenue
  • Share Food Program
  • The Rachel Way
  • Veterans Multi-Service Center Thrift Store

These service projects were organized through Independence’s corporate volunteer program, the Blue Crew, which plays an essential role in promoting the company’s mission to enhance the health and well-being of the community. In 2017, nearly 1,400 associates and their families donated over 11,000 hours to over 300 service projects throughout the region.
