Philadelphia, PA – Independence Blue Cross (Independence) proudly announces its sponsorship of the Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS) in Wayne, PA. The five week running program takes place in over 75 locations across the country and is designed to combat the increasing rates of child obesity in America and motivate kids from Pre-K to 8th grade to be healthy and active. This is the third year that Independence, an organization committed to promoting healthy and active lifestyles among children, has sponsored the community running series.
The HKRS takes place once a week and offers age-appropriate running events, including the 50 yard dash, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile, and the one-mile run. Kids compete each week for a chance to earn points, and the boy and girl with the most points in their respective age division each receive a trophy. All children participating in the HKRS, no matter how fast they run, will receive a medal and gift bag for their achievements. This year the HKRS in Wayne, PA, takes place on Sunday, April 12, 19, 26, and May 3, 17 at 5 p.m. at Wilson Farm Park (500 Lee Road), Wayne, PA.
Expanding from its 60 locations last fall, HKRS now accepts registrations in over 75 towns across 20 states and Puerto Rico. For more information or to participate, visit Healthy Kids Running Series.
Independence is not only dedicated to combating childhood obesity, but to improving the overall health of children for generations to come. That is why the Independence Blue Cross Foundation — the charitable arm of the company that complements and expands upon its commitment to the health and well-being of the community — implemented the Healthy Futures initiative, which is a collaborative school-based childhood wellness program aimed at improving fitness, nutrition, and preventive health.
