Independence Blue Cross (Independence) today announced that it has signed a multi-year contract renewal with Labcorp, a leading global life sciences company. The contract renewal builds on Independence and Labcorp’s joint commitment to support members’ whole health and provide them with a convenient and seamless experience when they need lab services.
“We are pleased about this contract renewal and look forward to continuing the important work we are doing with Labcorp,” said Paul Staudenmeier, senior vice president of Total Value Contracting and Reimbursement at Independence. “Our relationship is about more than providing members with high-quality lab service at Labcorp’s patient service centers. It’s also about working together to close gaps in care and improve members’ health through chronic disease prevention and management.”
For the past five years, Independence and Labcorp have partnered on efforts that help engage members to be more proactive about their health. Through Labcorp’s Gaps in Care solution, we have been able to send members high-quality, at-home test collection kits to help them manage diabetes, along with screenings for colon cancer and kidney disease. The at-home kits include the fecal immunochemical test (FIT), urine albumin test and HbA1c test.
Our work with Labcorp is having a meaningful, positive impact on members — especially those who may not have been screened if not for these at-home testing kits.
More than 350,000 FIT kits have been sent to Independence fully insured commercial and Medicare members between the ages of 50 and 75. They help screen for colon polyps or early colon cancer in people with an average risk.
“Tremendous goodwill and trust has been built between our organizations from our numerous collaborations, including when the Philadelphia community needed both of us the most—during the most challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic,” said Bill Haas, senior vice president of Northeastern U.S. and Canada at Labcorp. “We are honored to continue the momentum with IBC, its members, employers and providers for many years to come.”
The multi-year contract renewal was effective on July 1, 2022.
