Philadelphia, PA — Independence Blue Cross (Independence) today launched its 2017 annual campaign for United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. The campaign — Be a Community Rock Star — encourages Independence associates to take center stage and let their generosity shine.
“Independence is deeply invested in our community. Every day we work to improve the well-being of the people in our region, and the extraordinary work of the United Way supports this mission,” explained Independence President and CEO Daniel J. Hilferty. “The commitment and enthusiasm our associates exhibit every year during this campaign is truly inspiring.”
The campaign kicks off today and runs through September 30. During the campaign associates have the opportunity to attend a United Way agency-fair, learn about the organizations that benefit from the campaign, and pledge to support United Way. In addition, nearly 300 Independence associates will participate in a variety of community service projects as part of United Way’s Days of Caring initiative.
On Wednesday, September 20, Independence associate volunteers will lend a hand at the following community sites:
- American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA
- AstraZeneca Hope Lodge, Cheltenham, PA
- Food Bank of South Jersey, Pennsauken Township, NJ
- MANNA on Main Street, Lansdale, PA
- Philadelphia Senior Center, Philadelphia, PA
- Project HOME, Philadelphia, PA
- Turning Points for Children, Philadelphia, PA
- Variety Club Camp and Developmental Center, Worcester, PA
- Veterans Multi-Service Center, Philadelphia, PA
Additionally, on Saturday, September 23, 50 Independence associate volunteers will assist the SHARE Food Program in Philadelphia by packing food boxes, sorting food donations for distribution to local cupboards, and preparing seed beds for fall vegetable plantings.
The Independence campaign is part of United Way’s 365 Days of Caring, a year-round effort to achieve a collective impact through corporate volunteerism. Leading the associate campaign this year are Juan Lopez, vice president of investments and treasury services, and Peter Panageas, vice president of sales and client retention.
