Philadelphia, PA – Independence Blue Cross (Independence) is meeting Latino consumers where they live, work, and play to help them enroll in health plans that best meets their needs and budgets.
According to a report from The Pew Charitable Trusts, Latinos continue to be the most uninsured group in the country.Throughout Open Enrollment, Independence has been increasing its efforts to reach Latino communities with Spanish-language resources.
Upcoming Spanish-language education and enrollment events include:
- On Sunday, December 13, licensed sales agents will be available to help Spanish- speaking consumers enroll at St. Peter the Apostle Church’s celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. - Open Enrollment extends through January 31, 2016 and choosing a plan within this time frame allows consumers to avoid paying a penalty. These events are part of a broader outreach through churches, grocery stores, and Spanish-language broadcast stations, including a Spanish-language enroll-a-thon that is airing on Univision. To complete the enrollment application, all consumers will find it helpful to have on hand the following items for all members of the family who they wish to enroll:
- Social Security Numbers (or documented numbers for any legal immigrants who need insurance);
- address;
- birth dates;
- information on tobacco use;
- income information (paystubs or W-2 Forms, wage and tax statements);
- employer information, including employer name, address, and phone number;
- policy numbers for any current health insurance plans; and
- information from employer about any available job-related health insurance.
