Independence Blue Cross (Independence) was presented with the Corporate Leadership Award at this year’s Black and Gold Gala hosted by the Community College of Philadelphia Foundation and Honorary Chair Mayor James Kenney. The annual charity event celebrates individuals and organizations whose service to the community supports growth in education, business, social services, and health.

More than 500 attendees helped to raise nearly $225,000 to benefit the 50th Anniversary Promise Scholarship, a program that gives Philadelphia high school graduates the opportunity to pursue an associate’s degree at Community College of Philadelphia with no cost for tuition and fees.

Lorina Marshall-Blake, president of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation and vice president of Community Affairs for Independence accepted the award on behalf of Independence. Marshall-Blake served as a co-chair of the event.
