Independence Blue Cross honored by Main Line Chamber of Commerce

Receives United Way Regional Impact Award at annual Red Carpet Dinner

Philadelphia, PA – Independence Blue Cross (IBC) will be honored tonight by the Main Line Chamber of Commerce at the annual Red Carpet Dinner for the insurer’s efforts to enhance the community through on-going support of the United Way. Christopher Cashman, executive vice president and president of commercial markets, will accept the Regional Impact Award on behalf of IBC.

“I’m honored to accept this award on behalf of the dedicated and committed associates at Independence Blue Cross,” said Cashman. “Our mission at IBC is to enhance the health and wellness of the people and communities we serve. We’re very proud of our long history of investing in the United Way’s mission and their agencies. At IBC we are committed to finding innovative ways to provide essential social, educational, and health services to people in need.”

Independence Blue Cross has been involved with the United Way Days of Caring events for 17 years. This year, more than 250 IBC associates volunteered for 10 service projects over a three-day period. The volunteers restored a local neighborhood park; provided meals for chronically-ill patients and for the disadvantaged; prepared kits for fire emergencies; beautified the locations of several recreational, educational, and charitable centers; prepared rooms for guests at a charitable lodge; provided educational and recreational items to children; helped with administrative and labor tasks at a nonprofit; and assisted senior citizens at a special event.

Moreover since 1997, IBC and its associates have donated more than $29 million to the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. This year, 83 percent of IBC associates contributed to the United Way fundraising campaign with donations totaling more than $886,000.
