Independence Blue Cross helps consumers enroll in health insurance before deadline

December 15 is the deadline to sign up to be covered on January 1

Philadelphia, PA  Independence Blue Cross (Independence), the region’s leading health insurance organization, is reminding individual consumers that they must enroll in a health insurance plan on or before December 15 if they want to be covered starting January 1, 2017.

The Independence Express, the insurer’s mobile education and retail center, will be traveling throughout the community to help consumers understand their plan options and enroll in the coverage that is right for them:

December 13 through 15, 2016
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center
175 East City Avenue
Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004

Independence LIVE, the new customer and community experience center, offers a variety of health and wellness opportunities for the entire community and is a one-stop-shop for Independence member services. Licensed agents are also available to help people enroll in coverage:

Monday through Friday
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Independence LIVE
1919 Market Street, 2nd Floor
Philadelphia, PA 19103

Independence licensed sales agents are also available by phone at 1-888-475-6206 to answer questions and help consumers enroll in health coverage from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Consumers can also visit Independence’s easy-to-use website — ibx4you.com — which provides a guided shopping experience to help consumers find the coverage that is right for them. Also available on ibx4you.com is a subsidy estimator which allows consumers to quickly determine if they qualify for financial assistance from the federal government to help pay for their coverage.
To complete the enrollment application, consumers will find it helpful to have on hand the following items for all members of the family they wish to enroll:

  • Social Security numbers (or tax numbers for immigrants in need of insurance);
  • addresses and dates of birth;
  • information on tobacco use;
  • income information (pay stubs or W-2 forms, tax returns, and salaries);
  • employer information, including employer name, address, and telephone number;
  • policy numbers for any current health insurance plans; and
  • information about any work-related health insurance available.

For 2017, Independence is the only insurer offering plans on Pennsylvania’s Federally Facilitated Marketplace — including 12 different HMO and PPO plans across all metallic levels. Open enrollment for individuals and family health plans runs from November 1, 2016 through January 31, 2017. Consumers looking for health insurance to begin January 1, 2017 must enroll by December 15, 2016.
