Independence Blue Cross executive addresses employee wellness, women’s health at LUNG FORCE event

“Taking a Breath for Women” breakfast is first of its kind in the region

Philadelphia, PA – Today, Independence Blue Cross (Independence) Vice President of Wellness and Community Health Kimberly Eberbach addressed the critical and growing need to engage employees in wellness programs at the American Lung Association “LUNG FORCE: Taking a Breath for Women” breakfast. The event, which took place at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, brought together business professionals, health care workers and administrators, patients, and community members to learn about the rise of lung cancer in women and the importance of worksite wellness programs, such as those provided by Independence.

“The statistics around lung cancer and women are grim, but we are encouraged by the important work being done each day by the American Lung Association to educate the community and drive change,” said Eberbach, who leads the development and execution of wellness-related strategies and programs for Independence employees and members and the surrounding community. “We are equally optimistic that Independence’s efforts to offer innovative health and wellness solutions will improve the health status and enhance the health and wellness of the people we serve.”

According to the American Lung Association, lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women, causing almost twice as many deaths for women as any other cancer.

LUNG FORCE, a movement launched by the American Lung Association, unites women to stand together against lung cancer and for lung health. The goal is to make lung cancer a public health priority while driving policy change and increasing research funding.

The “LUNG FORCE: Taking a Breath for Women” breakfast is the first of its kind in the Philadelphia region. The breakfast kicks off a trio of LUNG FORCE events in Southeastern Pennsylvania, including a LUNG FORCE Expo for health care professionals and patients in February and a LUNG FORCE Walk in May.
