Independence Blue Cross celebrates Save Your Vision Week

Insurer teams with Visionworks to offer special promotions to raise awareness about vision health

Philadelphia, PA – Independence Blue Cross (IBC), the leading health insurer in southeastern Pennsylvania, has teamed up with optical retailer Visionworks to support Save Your Vision Week, March 3 – 7, 2014. In honor of Save Your Vision Week, IBC and Visionworks will offer special promotions on lenses and a social media contest with five $100 prizes to help raise awareness about the importance of vision care.

Across America, millions of men and women experience vision loss or are affected by low vision or blindness. During Save Your Vision Week, the significance of routine eye exams and taking action to safeguard eyesight are being recognized. Routine eye exams can help detect more serious chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. In addition, some eye diseases and injuries are preventable or treatable with early detection and timely treatment.

As part of the week-long vision care awareness campaign, IBC launched a Twitter promotion designed to connect with consumers in a fun and engaging way. Followers of IBC’s Twitter page are encouraged to Tweet a picture of their broken or old frames along with the #VisionWeek hashtag in the text, and one person will be chosen daily from March 4 –8 to win a $100 Visionworks gift card to help replace the frames. IBC’s Save Your Vision Week Twitter promotion begins on Monday, March 3, 2014 at noon ET and ends on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at noon ET.

Consumers will also have the opportunity to download a coupon for $30 off the cost of a lens upgrade at Visionworks by visiting www.ibx.com or the Independence Blue Cross Facebook page.
