Independence associate Roslyn Boskett participates in a Blue Crew volunteer project at home.
The Independence Blue Cross annual Blue Crew Gives associate charitable giving campaign concluded on October 1, raising over $600,000 for local nonprofits. Overall giving increased by more than $30,000 compared to last year, emblematic of the generosity of associates in supporting the communities where we live and work. For the first time, Independence matched associate donations up to $2,500 for organizations eligible under program guidelines.
The campaign, The Power of We, included a kickoff virtual fireside chat between Lorina Marshall-Blake, VP Community Affairs and President of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation and Pedro Ramos, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Foundation. Marshall-Blake and Ramos discussed the current and future landscape facing nonprofits and the community at large.
Independence associates also supported the campaign by donating their time, coming together for Blue Crew Gives Back virtual volunteer projects. 375 volunteers donated nearly 500 hours, with their efforts creating:
- 375 School Supply Kits for Cradles to Crayons
- 450 Baby Bundles for Maternity Care Coalition
- 375 Welcome Kits for Ronald McDonald House Philadelphia
- 500 Cards for seniors served by Caring for Friends
Independence also hosted a virtual five-day fair showcasing local charitable organizations and the important work they do. The topics included:
- Education/Youth
- Food Insecurity
- Good Health and Wellbeing
- Health Disparities
- Housing/Shelter
