Philadelphia, PA – For 10 years, Independence Blue Cross (Independence) and SilverSneakers – the nation’s leading fitness program designed exclusively for seniors – have partnered to give Medicare Advantage members the support they need to get healthy and stay healthy. To celebrate this partnership, Independence and SilverSneakers will offer several free special wellness events in the Greater Philadelphia region in September.
SilverSneakers is more than just a gym membership. It’s a fitness program that offers participants specialized exercise classes, health education, and social programs that have been shown to help seniors maintain good health, reduce health care costs, and lead an active, independent lifestyle.
“We began offering SilverSneakers to our Medicare Advantage members at no additional cost in 2008 in the hopes that it would encourage them to participate in physical activities that would help them maintain greater control of their health and wellness,” says Daphne Klausner, senior vice president of Senior Markets for Independence. “Since that time, the partnership has grown and has proved to be a valuable collaboration that really helps our members reach their wellness goals by building strength, improving energy, and forming lasting friendships.”
The planned special events will feature fitness workshops, photo booths, giveaways, light refreshments, and tours at the following locations this month:
- September 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Haverford YMCA (891 N Eagle Road)
- September 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lansdale Area Family YMCA (608 E Main Street)
- September 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lower Bucks Family YMCA (601 S. Oxford Valley Road)
The events are free and open to the public. To learn more about Independence’s Medicare offerings, visit www.ibxmedicare.com.
