Philadelphia, PA Statement from Daniel J. Hilferty, president and CEO of Independence Health Group, on the company’s 2018 Federal Marketplace participation:

“For nearly 80 years, Independence has been serving members in our region. Although other health insurers exited the Federal Marketplace in recent years, we continued to participate. This is the first time we seriously considered not being on the Federal Marketplace because of all of the uncertainty around health care reform. But we believe in the commitment we made to the people we serve. Hundreds of thousands of people are counting on us. That’s why in 2018 we will once again offer coverage on the Marketplace in our region.

Our final rates will be released by the state agency. We have proposed rates that take into consideration the current legislative and regulatory uncertainties. It is our hope that government leaders commit to stabilizing the market and funding the cost-sharing reductions that provide financial assistance to working and middle class families. Americans deserve a strong, stable health care system that delivers affordable coverage and access to quality care. I urge our elected officials to come together and find common ground; to put aside politics and open a real dialogue. Americans are depending upon us to get health care right.”
