IBC President and CEO Daniel Hilferty talks innovation at Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital

Philadelphia, PA – Daniel J. Hilferty, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross (Independence), spoke today at the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies Phorum, a leading technology strategy conference hosted at the World Café Live located at 3025 Walnut Street in Philadelphia.

In his talk, “Customer engagement in a digital world,” Hilferty explains why the traditional model of the health insurer is outdated and no longer works in the modern era. He further notes some key ways Independence is changing the delivery of health care and keeping people well including:

  • Mobile applications — to educate and empower Independence’s members toward better health.
  • Partnership with New York University and NYU Langone Medical Center — to develop machine-learning algorithms to predict undiagnosed diabetes.
  • Research with Penn Medicine — to improve medication adherence after a heart attack.
  • IBC Center for Health Care Innovation — to help transform the Philadelphia region into the Silicon Valley of health care innovation, investment and employment.

Phorum is an annual one-day tech strategy conference that attracts some of the nation’s leading thinkers around one trending topic.
