Lorina Marshall-Blake, president of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation and vice president of Community Affairs at Independence Blue Cross, was honored with the Power of One Award from The Urban League of Philadelphia at its 2020 Empowerment Dinner.
The Empowerment Dinner, held virtually this year on July 29, is an annual event that recognizes community champions who empower the undeserved in Philadelphia. Marshall-Blake was recognized for her decades-long commitment and dedication to improving the health of Philadelphia communities through innovation, thought leadership, empathy, and kindness.
Other 2020 honorees included:
- Innovation in Education Award: Dr. Donald Generals, President, Community College of Philadelphia
- Visionary Award: Vincent Hughes, Pennsylvania State Senator, 7th District
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the 2020 Community Scholarship recipients. This year, 79 local high school students received scholarships totaling $100,000. Since 2003, the organization has collectively awarded nearly $800,000 in scholarships to more than 400 high school seniors.
