Independence Blue Cross (Independence) associates celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) with a range of events. This year’s theme, “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation,” serves as a reminder that the strength of a company comes from the diversity of its associates.
Latinos con Propósito, one of nine Independence associate resource groups, created a full schedule of virtual and in-person events at the company’s headquarters, 1901 Market Street. Throughout the month-long celebration, associates learned about unique traditions, history, and culture that make the Hispanic community so diverse.
Independence’s Hispanic Heritage Month events included a conversation on immigration and health care disparities; a spotlight on Afro-Latinx literature and Latinx Caribbean culture; a discussion on the challenges minorities face when launching into a STEM career; a live cooking demonstration highlighting authentic Hispanic dishes; and much more.
Associate resource groups – like Independence’s Latinos con Propósito (Latinos with Purpose) – connect people and celebrate shared experiences and cultures. They help build a stronger workforce and promote the value of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
