Daniel J. Hilferty, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross, today signed an unprecedented collaborative agreement — along with nearly 20 other health care system leaders — with HealthShare Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Inc. (HSX). The signing ceremony at the Independence Visitors Center against the backdrop of Independence Hall, signifies the historic strides HSX has made since it launched in 2013.
Now, nearly all of the region’s major health systems, hospitals, and health plans such as Independence Blue Cross, are committed to using HSX to quickly and easily share patient information to improve communications and the quality of care. By linking electronic medical records and adding data from health insurers’ claims, HSX gives doctors and health professionals immediate access to medical information needed to make informed treatment decisions.
HSX is the nation’s only health information exchange in a top ten major metropolitan area built on collaboration between competing hospitals and insurers. This collaboration, and the commitment of our region’s hospitals and health systems to improve care in our region, has helped HSX quickly expand.
