The impact of unpaid caregiving on health and income in the U.S.

Caregivers make up a critical part of our nation’s workforce; however, caregiving is a significant responsibility that takes a toll on people’s health and income. According to Blue Cross Blue Shield Association data, nearly 52 million Americans who are elderly or have a serious medical condition require a caregiver — and the number of American adults taking care of loved ones without compensation is growing rapidly. This Health of America video produced by Independence Blue Cross highlights the effects of caregiving on the economy and on caregivers.

Led by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, the Health of America initiative is a source of insights, information, and powerful stories highlighting how Blue plans across the nation are leading the way to better health – and better health care – for America. Learn more at ibx.com/healthofamerica.
