Independence Blue Cross (IBX) recently hosted The Game Plan: Leveling the Playing Field for Health and Wellness, an event presented by the HEALTH Initiative, a transformative program that champions HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) excellence in athletics and leadership through health informatics. This initiative aims to improve the overall health of athletes and address longstanding health care disparities within the medical community.
The welcome remarks presented by Crystal Ashby, IBX executive vice president, chief people, DEI, and communications officer, helped set the stage for crucial conversations focused on advancing research in sports cardiology, particularly for athletes of color. Ashby’s remarks reinforced IBX’s deep commitment to eliminating disparities in health care due to race, gender, income or any other factors that contribute to inequities and to heart health. Ashby shared multiple IBX supported CPR initiatives with attendees, including the Mobile Hands-Only CPR kiosk, which gives thousands of people the opportunity to easily learn life-saving skills.
Panelists at the event included a diverse range of health and research experts, as well as NBA player Robert Covington and former NBA players Bo Kimble and Jameer Nelson.
