Independence Blue Cross (IBX) President and CEO Gregory E. Deavens was recognized as the 2024 Community Partner Honoree at Eluna’s 10th Champions for Children event for his transformative impact and ongoing success, reflecting the power within each of us to make a difference. The event, held on April 5 at Pomme Radnor, celebrated the power of Eluna’s camps, community, and connections under the theme “The Power Within.”

Eluna supports children and families impacted by grief or addiction, which is deeply relevant work at IBX. Deavens emphasized this in his remarks, stating, “We know that far too many Philadelphia children experience grief and trauma, especially in the wake of violence and addiction. It’s something we all have a responsibility to address.”

Deavens mentioned efforts by IBX and the Independence Blue Cross Foundation to expand youth mental health and supportive recovery for students. Deavens also spoke about the company’s commitment to whole-person health. “Our company is working with doctors and health systems to make sure that behavioral health care is integrated with and as important as physical health care,” said Deavens.

Eluna also recognized Emily Bittenbender, founder of Bittenbender Construction, as the Corporate Leadership Honoree, and Mariel Hemingway, activist, author, and speaker, as the Champion for Children Honoree.
