Gregory E. Deavens, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross (IBX), officially commenced his two-year term as the Chair of the Board of Directors for The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia (Chamber) at the 2024 Annual Meeting. Deavens first joined the Chamber’s Board and Executive Committee in 2021.

In his remarks at the Annual Meeting, Deavens shared his vision for the Chamber’s work to position Greater Philadelphia as a global destination for business and a leader in inclusive growth. He pointed in particular to the region’s ambitious plans for 2026, including hosting the FIFA World Cup and the Major League Baseball All-Star Game and welcoming visitors for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.

“We are at a critical inflection point that we must use as a catalyst to propel us into a brighter future. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am excited to work side by side with all of you,” said Deavens.

Deavens succeeds Mike Innocenzo, executive vice president and COO of Exelon, who has held the role as Chamber Board Chair since 2022. Deavens said of Innocenzo, “I am so grateful for his commitment to our region and every job and business he has fought for as Chamber chair.” Deavens also lauded the leadership of Chamber President and CEO Chellie Cameron: “Her committed leadership is just what we need to navigate the challenges that we face and the opportunities we seek to capitalize on.”

For over 220 years, the Chamber’s Annual Meeting has stood as one of the most significant assemblies of executives, elected officials, business owners, and civic leaders in the region.
