The Boy Scouts of America Cradle of Liberty Council honored Independence Blue Cross President and CEO Gregory E. Deavens with the “Good Scout” award.
Deavens was recognized during the 2023 Corporate Campfire Gala October 12 along with Chellie L. Cameron, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, and Thomas A. Caramanico, president of McCormick Taylor, Inc.
When accepting the award, Deavens saluted the Boy Scout leadership and the young scouts who dedicate their time and talents to benefit the community. He also reflected on the importance of mentorship.
The Good Scout Award recognizes business and community leaders who exemplifies the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law. Deavens is committed to advancing equitable, whole-person health, which includes integrating physical and behavioral health and reducing racial and economic health disparities. He has been named to Savoy magazine’s Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America, Philadelphia magazine’s Most Influential People in Philadelphia, and Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare, among other honors. He also received the Excellence in Governance award from Modern Healthcare in recognition of his contributions as chair of the board of directors for Hartford HealthCare from June 2020 to June 2023.
The Cradle of Liberty Council serves thousands of young people across the region. The Annual Corporate Campfire Gala is the organization’s largest annual fundraiser and brings together leaders from the construction and real estate, health and pharmaceutical, communications and media, and legal and consulting industries to recognize leaders in their fields.
