On June 27, Anthony Coletta, MD, MBA, president of Independence Blue Cross’s Facilitated Health Networks and executive vice president of Independence, joined a panel discussion at the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Policy Summit: Emerging Issues and Opportunities in Health Information Technology in Washington, D.C. Dr. Coletta and his fellow panelists addressed the state of health information technology (HIT) and its role in implementing the National Cancer Moonshot Initiative.

The summit brought together clinicians, government and regulatory organizations, patient advocacy groups, pharma-biotech companies, providers, and HIT companies and vendors to discuss advances in health care – particularly as it relates to cancer care – and the readiness of HIT to support the evolving landscape.

During the panel discussion, Dr. Coletta talked about Independence’s relationship with NantHealth and what it means to be the first major insurer to offer coverage for next-generation whole genome sequencing for a variety of cancers. He also discussed Independence’s participation in the National Immunotherapy Coalition, one of the nation’s most comprehensive cancer collaborative initiatives.
