With midterm elections nearing and health care a top priority for many Americans, Daniel J. Hilferty, Independence Blue Cross (Independence) President and CEO, continues to serve as a national thought leader on the topic. He recently joined news anchor Cheryl Casone and Florida Blue CEO Pat Geraghty on Fox Business News to discuss two important health care issues – coverage for preexisting conditions and prescription drug pricing.
Hilferty empathized with Americans worried that their preexisting conditions could prevent them from getting health insurance in the future. Hilferty assured viewers that the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association ― which covers one in three Americans ― firmly believes that preexisting conditions should not affect a person’s access to health insurance.
“We should all strive to make sure that folks can get coverage regardless of preexisting conditions,” he said.
When asked about the cost of prescription drugs, Hilferty said Independence is working hard to educate clinicians and consumers about lower-cost generic drugs and emphasized the importance of getting those options to the market faster.
