Daniel J. Hilferty, Independence Blue Cross (Independence) president and CEO, was recently inducted into the College of Physicians of Philadelphia (the College). The nation’s oldest medical society, the College was established in 1787 by a group of physicians that included Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of our nation’s Declaration of Independence.

Hilferty is one of twenty-six newly elected Fellows at the College, made up of civic leaders, public health advocates, academics, and other professionals who work together to better serve the public.

As part of its mission to advance the cause of health while upholding the ideals and heritage of medicine, the College strives to: enable individuals, families, and communities to take greater responsibility for their health; improve the health of the public through service to health professionals; enhance appreciation of the heritage of medicine; and provide information for the development of health policy.
