Diversity Woman Media honored Independence Blue Cross (Independence) Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Crystal Ashby on its Class of 2022 Elite 100 list. The list highlights Black women leaders in corporate America who break barriers and make a difference in the communities they serve.

According to a new study called “Women in the Workplace 2021” from McKinsey & Company and LeanIn.org., women of color make up only 4 percent of C-suite leaders in corporate America, compared to white men (62 percent), white women (20 percent), and men of color (13 percent).

The Elite 100 list honors Black women in C-suite level positions who prevail against these odds and promote change. Ashby has dedicated much of her career to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives – a cornerstone of Independence’s corporate culture.
