Independence Blue Cross (IBX) named Kelsey McGuire, a teacher of the visually impaired in the Secondary Department at Overbrook School for the Blind, as the second recipient of the 2026 IBX Honor Roll!
An eight-year teaching veteran, Ms. McGuire is known for her dedication to helping students build confidence in meaningful and lasting ways, while championing inclusion both inside and outside the classroom. Through creative teaching strategies and thoughtfully adapted instruction and materials, she empowers her students to develop critical skills such as communication and self-advocacy.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. McGuire is the founder of Philadelphia Blind Hockey, a nonprofit organization that provides individuals with visual impairments the opportunity to play ice hockey—free of charge—throughout the tri-state area. Her commitment to ensuring every student can achieve their goals is evident in all she does, from her work in the classroom to her role as coach of the school’s cheer team, where she continues to inspire teamwork, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
As a winning IBX Honor Roll teacher, Ms. McGuire will receive:
- A $500 gift card
- An on-field experience and recognition at the May 9 Philadelphia Phillies game
- Recognition on ballpark concourse signage and across IBX social media
- An IBX swag bag, including a Phillies jersey and cap
- A behind-the-scenes Citizens Bank Park tour to share with students or staff
The IBX Honor Roll is a joint initiative between Independence Blue Cross and the Philadelphia Phillies that celebrates extraordinary teachers in the Philadelphia five-county and New Jersey regions.
The IBX Honor Roll campaign will recognize six teachers in 2026 who are hitting it out of the park with their achievements both in and out of the classroom.
