Nearly 33,000 runners crossed the finish line for the 46th annual Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run held on May 4. Independence Blue Cross (IBX) has sponsored the race for 29 consecutive years. After two consecutive years of cold and rainy weather, runners enjoyed warm, dry conditions as thousands came out this year to cheer them on.
Independence Blue Cross CEO Gregory E. Deavens spoke with 6ABC race reporter Sharifa Jackson at the start line. Deavens also helped to start the race, joining Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson.
IBX congratulates the winners, including Joshua Izewski who finished first with a time of 46:13.73, and Amber Zimmerman, who finished first among women with a time of 52:17.67. Bryan Morseman won the non-binary category with a time of 52:17.67. Miguel Jimenez Vergara won the men’s wheelchair division with a time of 37:19.74.
This year, more than 115 IBX associate runners participated in the race. IBX’s corporate running team, known as the Blue Streaks, is one of the largest in the region.
Congratulations to all participants!
